The 5 Biggest Benefits of a Micro-Wedding

An intimate, modern way to say ‘I Do’ without all the fuss a big wedding can bring. Find out why this photographer loves a micro-wedding.

Before last year, most engaged couples had never heard of a micro-wedding. And even if they had, they wouldn’t consider the idea for their big day. However now, after the year we’ve all had, a micro-wedding has fast become the perfect antidote for couples starved of intimacy with their closest friends and family. As a wedding photographer in Essex, I’ve been a huge fan of the micro-wedding for some time. But a lot of couples have been asking me recently what it actually is, and why I think they should have one. So today I thought I’d share the benefits of a micro-wedding, and why it is a trend that will last.

Firstly, What is a Micro-Wedding?

A micro-wedding is normally an intimate celebration with no more than 25 guests in attendance, plus a photographer! As the name suggests, it is a smaller version of a wedding. With all the normal traditions honoured (or not), but in a much more cosy way.

Why You Should Consider a Micro-Wedding

So Much Easier to Plan

If you’re a couple who likes to keep things simple. Laid-back maybe. Then take it from a photographer who has seen it all, a micro-wedding is so much easier to plan than a normal big day. And that is because everything is smaller! You only have to prepare 50 invites, not 500. You only have to feed a handful of guests, not fistfuls. Your seating chart can be planned on a napkin! You get the idea. The wedding planning process is suddenly streamlined when you have less to prepare, and fewer people to prepare for.

Keep Your Costs Down

Nobody likes talking about the cost of weddings, but they are expensive. So if you are not willing or can’t spend a lot on your nuptials, then a micro-wedding may be the perfect solution for you. Of course, it will still cost money. But with a small wedding, your savings will go a lot further, produce more spectacular results, and you’ll actually get to spend it on the things you want to. For example, with a micro-wedding you will only need to hire a photographer for 2 hours, compared to the 10+ normally needed. That money saved can then be put back into the wedding, or used to upgrade some flights for your honeymoon!

Spend Actual Time with Your Wedding Guests

As a micro-wedding photographer, I have seen for myself how a smaller guest size can hugely benefit the interaction couples can have with their loved ones. Instead of trying to say a passing hello to hundreds of people, couples can actually interact with their guests and share a proper moment. Also, if you’re someone that struggles with anxiety or interacting with large groups of people. Consider how much more relaxing (and enjoyable) it will be to celebrate with only your nearest and dearest.

Make it Personal

The people attending your micro-wedding are the most important people in your world. They’re not second cousins you’ve never heard of, or plus-ones you’ve never met. They are the cream of the crop, and you have a close connection with them all. So you have the opportunity to show them how much you care. For example, at a big wedding you would never be able to prepare handwritten, personal notes for each of your guests. But when you have less than 50 guests, it’s easy to share some sentimental gifts with your guests and personalise their day.

You Can Celebrate Wherever You Want

The local church hall is no longer the only place that will fit your guest size. Because by refining your numbers, you can wed where you want. Your favourite restaurant has a private backroom, book it for your micro-wedding reception! Your uncle Simon has a big back garden, host the whole wedding there! Choices are suddenly only limited to your imagination when planning a micro-wedding, making it easier to create a special day that is as unique as you are.

Bonus reason – you can spend a little more time getting those beautiful, bold romantic photos!

Be it a micro-wedding, or a massive wedding, you need a photographer you can trust. I consider wedding photography to be an investment, because it is the one thing you will arrange for your big day that will last forever. Using a fresh, modern style I will capture every emotion and natural reaction on your special day – to create a timeless keepsake for you and yours. In light of the popularity of micro-weddings, I have created a brand-new bronze photography package – the perfect solution for smaller celebrations.
