He Said Months of Planning. She Said Yes in Seconds. A Surprise Proposal at Marazion, Cornwall

When Tay first got in touch, he was equal parts excited and terrified. He had a plan — a beautiful, meticulous, months-in-the-making plan — to propose to Beth on the beach at Marazion, in the shadow of St Michael’s Mount. He just needed a little help to pull it off.
And pull it off he absolutely did.
Planning the Perfect Cornwall Surprise Proposal
Tay had chosen Marazion for a reason. There’s something genuinely magical about that stretch of beach — the ancient castle rising from the water, the wide open sand at low tide, the sense that you’re somewhere completely apart from the rest of the world. He wanted the backdrop to say everything he couldn’t quite find words for. We talked through the logistics, the timing, the light — and then we waited.
The weeks leading up to the day, the nerves were real. As his photographer, I could feel the anticipation in every message. Is the tide going to be right? Will she suspect anything? That kind of careful, loving planning is one of my favourite things to be part of.

The Day Itself — Marazion Beach, St Michael’s Mount
The 10th of April brought with it a proper Cornish sky and a wind that had absolutely no interest in cooperating. Beth’s dress billowed, her hair flew — and honestly? It made every single image more beautiful. There’s something about the wild, natural energy of the Cornish coast that simply cannot be manufactured.
And the tide? The tide played beautifully. It had pulled back to reveal a wide, golden stretch of sand and exposed the ancient cobbled causeway — the very spot where Tay got down on one knee.
Beth’s hands flew to her mouth. Her eyes filled. She said yes before he’d even finished asking.

The Moment — and the Ring
Down on one knee on the causeway, with St Michael’s Mount framed behind him and their fluffy golden doodle watching on with what I can only describe as knowing approval, Tay opened the box. The ring — a stunning solitaire diamond — caught what little light the sky was offering, and for a second everything was absolutely still despite the wind.

I captured the ring being slipped onto Beth’s finger, her bracelet glinting, the tattoo on her wrist. These are the details that tell the whole story in a single frame.

After the Yes — Engagement Portraits at Marazion
Once the tears and the laughter had settled (a little), we spent time exploring the beach and the rocks together — the three of them, because their dog was not about to be left out of celebrations. He trotted up and down the stone steps, photobombed the wide shots with absolute confidence, and generally reminded us all why dogs make every session better.

We got portraits on the rocky shoreline with the castle behind them, standing together in that just-said-yes bubble of complete joy. Beth’s windswept hair and polka dot dress against the moody grey-blue of the bay. Tay unable to stop smiling. The ring on her finger catching the light as she rested her hand against his chest.
